I got my hair ombred last year (is that a word?) and didn’t want to spend the money to refresh the salon color. I have a lot of allergies to things like this, but gave this a shot. It is very messy, and yes it does temporarily stain the shower and your skin. I get a bit of a purple scalp and hands but it washes away within a day or so with good scrubbing.
I started using this every week to 2 weeks, but decided to try going a month between. It definitely fades in that time, but not so much that its horrendous. I have since started routinely waiting a month to make the bottle last longer. People can always tell when I refresh haha
The smell is chemically but not horribly so. They obviously attempted to not make it smell like straight up toxic fumes haha I find I have the best results when I wash with normal shampoo first, then use the color shampoo, then condition. I don’t use the color conditioner as I don’t find I need it. The shampoo alone is sufficient. I am also lazy about the cold water and use my normal hot as heck temp in the shower. You will need to do a lot of rinsing, and while the conditioner is in I recommend putting your hair up in a big clip or something so it isn’t staining your back.
Also, it only dyes the hair that has been bleached previously. It won’t dye natural hair, which personally I appreciate. I only want my bleached ombre spots purple. SO just know, it will NOT dye your whole head if your whole head is not bleached already.

First time, I left the shampoo on for 30 minutes and then the conditioner on for 30 minutes which I discovered is way too long. Second time, I only left the shampoo on for 10 minutes and then just used a deep conditioning treatment. Much better!

We love this brand. My daughters wanted their hair colored but I did not want anything perminant. A hair stylest recommended this brand and color. My daughters love it. My youngest is 6 and has platinum blonde hair. Her color came out very bright and faded beautifuly. It washed out in about 2 months. My older daughter has brown hair. The picture does not do the color justice. It came out pink with a gorgious shimmer. My youngest with the platinum did not shimmer. We used the same bottle for both girls and their hair took the color different but both turned out gourgious. I dont hesitate to color their hair whenever they want as lond as we have this brand on hand. I know it is going to turn out great every time. The process is very simple. My daughters dont want a full head of color so we streak it. Some side notes, we left the color in for 5 minutes on clean dry hair to get this shade of pink that is in the pictures. The color did get on my clothes but it washed right out leaving no stain. When the hair is wet and washed the color also did not stain any clothes or towels even though you saw color wash out each time the hair was washed. Hope this helps

I have pre-lightened hair that I regularly dye a light golden blonde with box dye (Live XXL), and this only took to half of it, plus random parts that I presume were more processed than other parts. I don’t know how objective I can be about the quality of the dye because my hair isn’t platinum blonde or freshly bleached. For the parts the shampoo clung to, it was very vibrant and pigmented, but unfortunately didn’t pigment all of my hair; less processed sections were more of a rose gold (though this was a nice gradient).
Anyway, scent wise it’s very pleasant, and absolutely no stains in the shower or. My hands were only stained when I applied it to dry hair and used a large amount, but still only a thin layer that came off easily.

For all intensive purposes it does what it needs to. It deposits color into your hair like it says it does; however, make sure you understand that this is NOT good for your hair. I have used different color depositing shampoos/conditioners from all different price points, and none of them are great for your hair. If you are fine with that and just want some color, this should do great.

Hoping my use case for Tourmaline color wash will be helpful to someone.
This summer I started using a heat activated lightening spray (specifically, Sunbabe) on my naturally dark blonde/light brown (level 6), virgin hair.
I do this to turn my hair a ginger/strawberry color (think like Connie Britton) without having to use any dye or coloring products, by taking advantage of the fact that bleach and hair lighteners turn my hair orange on the way to blonde. The Sunbabe allows me to slowly reach the color I want over the course of 2-3 treatments, turning me a very natural looking strawberry color maybe 1-2 levels lighter than my natural color. I use facial hair bleach to bring my eyebrows to an equivalent ginger shade. I get to be a ginger/ strawberry blonde color without using any color depositing products.
It looks really good on its own, but I came across this product and decided to see what would happen if I use this over the Sunbabe lightened hair. I thought it might be fun to jooj the color up temporarily with a color depositing shampoo.
I tried it out last night and it really did turn up the color saturation on my hair without making it look unnatural (how many times can I say the word natural in one review?). It’s the same ginger color, just amplified, more coppery (like Blake Lively) and a little shinier.
As expected from the product literature, it didn’t alter the color of my unlightened roots.
It did vaguely change some of my white hairs, which had been exposed to Sunbabe, to a lighter strawberry color that blends better with the rest of my hair. That was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. However my white roots that were not treated with Sunbabe remained white.
I don’t really like the way it makes my hair feel. At first in the shower it felt soft, but once the product was thoroughly rinsed, it felt too squeaky clean. I conditioned after, but my hair still ended up feeling like I had just dyed it. I guess that’s to be expected, but for whatever reason, I wasn’t expecting it. It’s not a dealbreaker for me and my hair, but someone with dry or processed hair might find this product on the drying side.
The shampoo itself is a dark yellow brown color, which lathers into a yellowy orange lather. It did lightly stain my hands, but not my head or neck, nor the tub. I shower before bed and go to bed with a wet head, so I used an old pillowcase and white shirt to test for staining. I’m pleased to report, it did not stain the pillowcase or shirt.
I can’t yet speak to how long it lasts. I shampoo nightly, so I don’t expect it to last long.
That said, I bought it specifically because I want it to fully leave my head after a few washes, unlike Overtone which stains your hair forever. My hairdresser told me if I ever want to be blonde again, I need to not be using products that stain. That’s the whole reason why I use Sunbabe to achieve the red color in the first place. I’m hoping that this product will fully rinse out over time, and won’t affect my ability to go blonde in the future.
The fragrance is a little strong for my taste, but it’s not the worst. Might be too much for individuals with certain migraine triggers.
Overall, I like this product and will use it when I want to turn up my hair color. I think it would be great for folks with ginger or strawberry blonde hair (natural or color treated).
I’m report back if I have anything to add about how it washes it.

I was very nervous to try this. I bought it after looking at YouTube videos for a colour wash shampoo for red/auburn hair. I couldn’t find any videos for Fire Opal – only for Ruby Red, which is WAY more red than what I wanted. I also read reviews from people saying the colour was more brown – so I wasn’t sure what colour I’d wind up with.
When I opened the bottle – it looked REALLY REALLY brown!! Not at all an auburn – I even rubbed some into my skin to see if any reds showed through – but it just looked brown. So now I was scared.
Long story short – my hair was looking SO faded from my last dye job, I decided even brown was better than how it looked – so I washed my hair with the Gem wash and let it sit about 5-7 minutes. I used quite a bit to get all my hair covered & clipped it up. Warning: The suds turn a nasty brownish colour – so don’t panic when you look at your hands in the shower! Also make sure to get along your hairline really well. And get it even over your roots to tips.
I decided to post a picture in case you are looking for a reddish auburn colour like I was. This stuff really works great! My hair turned out a rich, beautiful colour pretty close to the model in the listing.
I’ll keep using this in between colourings – now that we are all at home doing our own hair with the pandemic – I’m super pleased & relieved I found this.

Keeps my hair vibrant and refreshed for a few months between salon visits. Smell and texture is okay. Can dry your hair a bit so it’s important to use conditioner. Price is affordable and lasts for a while

I’m a natural redhead but my color has faded. I usually use Clairol nice n easy in 8R, but it fades pretty quickly even though I only wash my hair about twice a week. I liked the idea of being able to restore the vibrancy by just washing. After watching some YouTube videos and reading reviews that were specifically written by other redheads, I decided to go with Fire Opal. I just tried it this morning and LOVE the results! I washed thoroughly to make sure the product was evenly distributed and then left it on for a minute or two. I followed up with left over conditioner from my last Clairol kit. This shampoo definitely added brightness while still looking incredibly natural. I’m so happy to have found this product!!!

Fantastic product. Kept the colour in my hair after 2 washes. Hair feels wonderful after using. Gives better volume than all of my other expensive shampoos put together!
Does make your hands purple but does wash off after a few washes / use gloves if you need.
Love the fact that it’s vegan, not tested on animals. Will use this from now on, possibly in other colours as I change my hair ❤️
