This monitor is great. Good colours, brightness and response time. Major upgrade over my 24” 1080p TN panel. First one I received was defective, the whole frame was crooked but Amazon replaced it and the new unit is great. Only downside is the IPS glow, it’s mostly noticeable on the bottom left of the monitor during very dark scenes but it’s not enough to be distracting. It’s very common with IPS panels so you have to get used to it. I got it on sale for $399, if you’re thinking about getting it just wait. I’ve seen it as low as $379. Overall this monitor is great and I recommend it for people who want a great 1440p experience.

This monitor gets the job done EXACTLY the way I need it to.
I bought this monitor since I wanted to upgrade my picture quality from 1080p to 4K for a few years now and lately I have been putting my screens in grayscale to prevent myself from allocating too much time on activities that shouldn’t be prioritized during certain times of the day and week; however, this monitor doesn’t have a preset grayscale setting, so if you want to create one like I did then go to one of the premade settings, select “Picture Adjust,” and turn all of the “Six Color” settings to zero and hit save. I also setup another premade setting to be exactly like my custom grayscale setting but with color so I can easily and quickly switch between both modes.

This is my first monitor so I will give it 4 stars. This is a large step up from my 17″ laptop monitor, text is easily readable on this and the picture quality is fantastic. I’m not too sure about HDR or how good the colours are, and I find it’s a little tricky to calibrate it without an expensive calibrator. So for now I am using what looks best and most accurate to me. sRGB mode looks good, but it’s a little too washed out, same thing with the HDR mode. I’ve read that sRGB mode is supposed to give the most accurate colours, but based on it being not individually calibrated for colour accuracy, it’s not worth using as it locks all the other settings.
The settings I’ve chosen are as follows:
Gamer 2
FreeSync off (unless you want it locked at 100hz with input lag)
Black Stabilizer at 50, as others say this messes with the gamma so don’t touch it
Response time fast
For brightness use whatever is good for your room, I use around 0 for no light, 40 for some lights in my room, and 70-90 for when the sun is coming in.
Contrast at 60-65
Gamma mode 3
Colour temp Medium, I find the other modes makes white screens too discoloured.
Black level high.
I play Osu mainly and with the high response time it feels fantastic, unfortunately osu is easy to run so there is a contrast between using vsync, getting lots of input lag; or having frames above 144 and having massive amounts of screen tearing. Either way I wouldn’t sacrifice the fast input delay for anything.

It is hard to convey what you’ve never had. I didn’t realize how much of a difference this monitor would make because I’d never had such a good monitor. The colors are deep, the picture is accurate, there is no ghosting or even a hint of it – its just so smooth. And I had a really good Dell ultrasharp for gaming.
I also didn’t realize how much I would like 1440 gaming. Or the high refresh rate. EVERY game I have looks like new. Its just wonderful. You can’t go wrong with this one.

Fantastic Monitor. I recommend this monitor for any and all gaming applications. It is awesome. Crisp, Bright, Fast and easy to get assembled and running. It is the best on the market. 🙂

Monitor is fantastic thus far, clear and bright and despite what many reviews say, the HDR effect is great for my usecase – Matches it a bit better with my OLED screen in the middle. Granted I am not using this for gaming, so your mileage may vary – Just prefer the resolution and refresh rate for day to day as going back to 60Hz is too jarring for me.
I purchased this to be used in a bookended configuration in portrait – Initially my acer predator was on the left, and nothing on the right. However, this is where the big flaw comes in.
When going into portrait mode, the stand only supports a 90 degree rotation one way. So the orientation I have it in (left side of the picture) is the only possible portrait orientation. Thankfully my predator supports rotating both ways, otherwise I would have been left with the power and controls ‘bar’ facing into my next monitor and would have had to return it.
Excellent monitor thus far again, but beware that it will only rotate into portrait mode to be used to the left of an existing monitor.

1. IPS panel.
2. 144HZ variable refresh rate G-sync freesync.
3. factory calibrated.
4. 1440p 27″
5. 460$
Do I need to say more?? Just BUY IT ALREADY! You will be very satisfied with this monitor, colour accurate, IPS panel oh my, compared to TN, holly, hell and heaven. 144 hz, Gsync 27″. I know what some people might be thinking: what about asus TUF? Yes, like you, I compared the two like crazy, that one is good also, but that one is 100$ more expensive. You still getting 1440p 27″ gsync ips. Yes you lose 21 fps from them over clocking the TUF (you can do it yourself, I’ve not tried, but maybe you can overclock this one too?), and you lose that ELMB sync from TUF, which I have not tried. The thing is, can your hardware actually drive 165 hz 1440p ultra settings? Most llkely no. So now it’s just ELMB sync, but that’s 100$ more expensive. So if you ask me, I’d buy myself a couple of nice dinners (sorry no gf) or pay extra 20~30 for a cheap secondary monitor, or upgrade your pc. The only monitor upgrade you can go from here is buy two more of this same monitor. Thin and sexy bezzels, oo la la, just buy it, 460$! You will not regret it.

To get 144Hz from this monitor you have to set the monitor to the following settings:
• FreeSync Premium— Off
• Response Time— Faster
• Smart Energy Saving— Off
• HDMI Compatibility Mode— Off
• HDR— Off
• DAS Mode— On
Also, you must use the right port on the monitor— HDMI Port 1 or the Display Port (depending on which cable you use). There are also certain limitations you might face if using an HDMI cable (ports before HDMI 2.1) and not display port. All of this is to say, the monitor only hits 144Hz under specific conditions, and there is no instructions on achieving this included. This is definitely something that should be easier to achieve, or perhaps even it’s own all-in-one setting. However, I like many others had to find this out with lots of research; very frustrating.
As for everything else regarding this monitor:
I’ve also seen some comments about concerns over mounting this monitor. I purchased a Huanuo, dual arm desk mount and it works great. I included a photo and you can see there isn’t much additional room though, so be aware if you are planning to mount this, as the mounting holes are recessed in the back of the monitor. Finally, the power cable for this monitor really sucks. The brick is huge, taking up a ton of space on my extension cable, and the cord itself isn’t very long either. Could definitely do with something better in that regard. All in all this is a good monitor, just some unexpected hiccups as a first time buyer.

LG 27GL83A-B 27
G-SYNC COMPATIBLE.
